Congratulations to Ivan for defending his Master thesis

I am a bit late with the news section, but let's congratulate Ivan for successfully defending his Master thesis last month!
Ivan worked of a joined project with Prof. Anna Iuliano on the development of a new suistainable method for the synthesis of bis-amino acids!
All the best for his future!

Stabilized Arylzinc Iodides in Negishi Acylative Cross-Coupling

I am really proud to share this work wrote  by Post-Doc Dr. Gianluca Casotti, as corresponding author, that was recently published on the new journal "Organics". In our laboratory Sos & PePSy, and in our department of chemistry in Pisa, through fruitful collaborations, we try to enhance the value of good ideas and good will. Gianluca had a good idea, and with my collegue Prof. Anna Iuliano we believed on it. The method developed allowed the synthesis of chalcones through a path involving an acylative Negishi coupling. The key point of this strategy is the preparation of the organozinc by direct insertion which is reflected in a superior functional-group tolerance and an improved intrinsic greenness. Different functional groups as well as heteroaryl rings are well-tolerated.

I a thrilled and honoured to host here, at the University of Pisa (5-6-7 September) the last Chemobrionics meeting. A great chance to meet several Scientists from all over Europe, with a reach agenda of lectures!

Self-organizing precipitation processes, such as chemical gardens forming biomimetic micro- and nano-tubular forms, Self-assembly of amphiphilic molecules forming micelles, vesicles or membrane, have the potential to drastically enhance future materials design, as well as allowing us to develop new methodologies to explore, quantify and understand non-equilibrium chemical systems, and might even shed light on the conditions for the origin of life. Advances in chemobrionics require a combination of expertise in physics, chemistry, mathematical modelling, biology and engineering, as well as in nonlinear and materials sciences, giving rise to a new synergistic disipline.

Benvenuti Ludovica e Ferdinando

Really lucky to have a talented Post-Doc like Gianluca in the Lab! He is working on the Design & Synthesis of new photoswitches for biomedical applications in the Quantum LIP project,  a joint venture between the Molecolab of Prof. Benedetta Mennucci and our lab. SoS&PePsy. Not only Gianluca is able to move from computational to synthetic chemistry but he builded with 3D printer and Arduino a temperature-controlled photoreactor to be used directly on cuvettes and nmr tubes. Great Job!
